Where It All Began is the 7th and last book of the Blue Moon series. This book is a prequel, but MUST be read LAST. I would say the other books can be read out of order, but not this one. DO NOT DO IT.
Okay, now that's out of the way let's dive into the book. It really is such a sweet, beautiful, and lovely book about Phoebe Allen and John Pierce. I loved this book from beginning to end. John Pierce is very clear about what he wants and see his future in his land: working the earth, loving his community, having kids run around, and a Mrs. Pierce to spend his days with. He is quiet, determined, and full of surprises.
Phoebe Allen is a grad student working on her thesis. When she shows up at Pierce Acres, John is surprised to find that the male grad student he was expecting (Allen) turns out to be a female (Phoebe) and he is not thrilled. John needed a farm hand in exchange for helping with the thesis. Can Phoebe endure this hard work when most men and women cannot? Will Phoebe's incessant talking wear down our quiet John or make him kick her off his farm? They both have to be careful. Phoebe needs to finish this thesis and land a well-paying job. Her family needs it. John desperately needs Phoebe's help around the farm.
Spoiler alert: I cried from page 220 to the end. That's about 30 pages, and an hour of crying. Lucy Score did not disappoint with their love story and this prequel. For those of you who are reading the series, you get a glimpse of young Carter, Beckett, Jax, Cardona, and Joey. Even young goth Ellery.
Throughout the Blue Moon series we get ideas about John Pierce, and what a spectacular and special kind of man he was. But, to get this deep dive into John Pierce is swoon-worthy. For those of us who already loved Phoebe, you will love her even more.
